Hot City has been gaining quite a reputation on the London underground having recently completed mixes for Mary Anne Hobbs as well as the ever reliable FACT magazine series. He is also a resident at London’s Wifey club night as well as the How’s My Raving events at Cargo. Simply put, Hot City produces relentless, unselfconscious dance-floor bangers that neatly triangulate hardcore, UK garage and jacking Todd Edward’s style New York House. With tight production and precision edits propelling his sound forward, Hot City seems to have successfully captured the ethos of the UK rave continuum and packaged it up into a driving 21st century sound that’s found favour from DJs as diverse as Drop The Lime and Hudson Mohawke.
Ike Release (Infrasonics, zero" // Berlin), a Berlin ex-pat originating from Chicago, has surfaced as part of a movement in electronic music exploring the advanced beat structures surrounding the evolving UK hardcore lineage, while taking on influences from the timeless sounds of Dub, Detroit and Berlin Techno.
xxxy is Manchester based producer Rupert Taylor. Having initially released as Forensix (mcr) he changed name and focus in 2007 and became xxxy. His releases on Mindset, Fabric and Formant were very well received and forthcoming releases on Steakhouse, Infrasonics and Fortified are set to see him gain more attention.
xxxy has played all over the UK and in Europe and has produced mixes for Electronic Explorations and Sonic Router.
You might have known him as the man behind the counter at the now sadly defunct Freebird Records shop in Dublin for the past five years.
But you should also know him as Gon, a fervent record collector and scratch dj, with an eclectic taste in music spanning from funk, jazz, reggae and hip hop right through to dubstep, UK Funky and the future garage sounds of today. It is through this prism that his unique take on the dubstep sound has been formed.
Gon had digital releases for the likes of Absys Records and Standard Records, and has just had his debut on Infrasonics with its infra12003 release.
Gon has also composed numerous soundtrack pieces for short films, documentaries and TV programmes.
25 years old producer born and raised in Leeds, Jamie Webster has been producing electronic music for the past few years, under the alias of Jamie Grind.
“The main influences in my style – he says – are Low Deep, Todd Edwards, 2562, Karizma, Fabrice Lig, Theo Parish, Dem2, Dilla, 9th Wonder. Hence you can expect to hear Detroit strings, chopped and screwed r’n’b vocal edits, pitch bent synths tied up in shuffled 2-step and UK Garage rhythmic patterns”.
June 2010 sees his debut for Infrasonics with two tracks – “If You Want” and “Balloon” – as part of the new split 12" release alongside Gon.
Hailing from Chester, Olly Stork, AKA KingThing is co-runner of Night Audio and No District along with Submerse & Resketch, as well as his own imprint, Silhouettes.
After releases on labels such as Fortified Audio, Car Crash Set, L2S Recordings & Freshmore were supported by the likes of Jackmaster, Geiom, Brackles, Spatial, Distal, Todd Edwards, Rinse FM and BBC Radio 1, KingThing has been playing shows around Europe and the UK.
With more releases pencilled in for 2012, as well as more international shows, this promises to be a good year for the promising producer.
